Every workplace in Pennsylvania and across the country has its own, often unique, hazards. While employers often go to great lengths to protect their workers, accidents can often happen unexpectedly from surprising circumstances. Unfortunately, officials in another state are currently working to investigate a recent fatal workplace accident.
According to reports, a liquid tank exploded, and emergency responders were told that no flames were visible after the explosion. Once they arrived, they were informed that one worker remained inside the tank and another could not be located. The missing worker was reportedly discovered approximately 75 feet away from the tank. That 29-year-old man died at the scene.
Reports indicate that two people were transported to the hospital. The conditions and extent of their injuries are unclear. Officials claim that workers were attempting to weld a plate (needed for the installation of a handrail) on the tank when the explosion occurred. They reportedly tested the atmosphere surrounding the tank prior to beginning the work but failed to test the inside of it. The incident likely remains under investigation by both local Georgia authorities and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
