There are many dangers on construction sites in Pennsylvania and across the country. While some may be obvious, a construction accident can be the result of a simple miscommunication or misunderstanding. Unfortunately, a family in another state is now coping with the unexpected death of their loved one.
The incident happened one morning on a day in November. According to reports, the 55-year-old male victim was working as a subcontractor at a construction site where an apartment complex intended for college students was being built. Reports indicate that the victim stepped behind a bulldozer which then struck him.
A medical helicopter was called to the scene; however, the decision was made to transport him to the hospital by ambulance where he could be stabilized before flying him to a different facility. Unfortunately, he passed away as a result of injuries suffered in the accident. A police detective familiar with the case indicated that the Occupational Safety and Health Administration had been contacted and is expected to lead the investigation.
Unfortunately, a construction accident such as this can be both emotionally and financially devastating for surviving family members. Because of the potential for workplace accidents, employers are required to provide workers' compensation insurance coverage. These benefits can help with medical costs, lost wages and funeral expenses. In many situations, they can also extend to certain family members. To ensure that a family fully understands the benefits to which they are entitled and to seek a fair settlement, many in Pennsylvania hire an experienced professional to guide them through the process.
