Man airlifted following industrial accident

All workplaces in Pennsylvania and across the country hold some degree of risk. Even when an employee is performing a task that seems simple, there is the potential of an industrial accident. Unfortunately, a man in another state was transported to the hospital by helicopter after he suffered serious burns in an incident at work.

The incident happened at approximately 7:30 a.m. one day in late January. According to reports, the victim went outside to light a heating boiler. Although officials claim that there are usually embers remaining from the previous night, the worker is said to have used a lighter. He also allegedly used gas to try to get the fire to catch faster.

Unfortunately, reports indicate that the fire went into the can of gas he was using, causing an explosion. Witnesses claim that they were able to put the fire out with a fire extinguisher. The clothes and his legs and arms were burned away. He was flown to the hospital by a helicopter and is reportedly in critical condition.

Officials with the company claim that they take safety seriously and are working with investigators from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration to help understand how this industrial accident occurred to prevent similar incidents in the future. In the meantime, the injured man likely faces a long recovery and requires extensive medical interventions. Because he is probably unable to work, he may also face significant financial hardships. However, he may be entitled to workers' compensation insurance benefits. A professional with experience with such cases in Pennsylvania can examine the cases of workplace injury victims to determine what they will need to meet their financial needs and help them pursue a settlement that is fair.
