Work-related injuries kill 1, injury 2

The risks associated with certain jobs in Pennsylvania are obvious. However, even jobs that seem as if they may be relatively low-risk can potentially result in serious harm. For example, a job as a refuse worker may seem pretty safe. Unfortunately, three men recently suffered work-related injuries due to a crash involving a garbage truck.

The incident happened just before noon on a day in mid-April. According to reports, three men were riding in a trash truck on an interstate in a neighboring state. Though many details of the accident are unclear, reports indicate that the three men occupying the vehicle were ejected in a single-vehicle accident.

One of the men, a 22-year-old, died as a result of injuries suffered in the accident. A 44-year-old man remained hospitalized days after the accident but is expected to survive. The third man, 24 years old, was treated at the hospital and released. The mayor for the city that employed the men has released a statement indicating that the workforce is devastated over the incident.

However, the devastation experienced by the man's co-workers likely pales in comparison to what his family members are experiencing as they are left, unexpectedly, planning a funeral. Additionally, those injured in the crash may have concerns about how they will pay their medical bills, especially if they experience lost wages while they recover. Because of the potential financial complications that work-related injuries can create, employers in Pennsylvania and across the country are required to provide workers' compensation insurance benefits which can help with a variety of these expenses. An attorney can help these victims seek a fair settlement as they cope with the aftermath of the accident.
