Everyday individuals take to Pennsylvania roads in their motor vehicles to get from one place to another. In doing so, rarely does anyone think about the possibility that they may not reach their destination because of a motor vehicle accident. Sadly, a midday car accident in Pennsylvania last week resulted in the death of two people. In addition to the deaths, a third person was injured in the two-vehicle accident.
The accident occurred along PA Route 271 when a 30-year-old man driving a 1985 Chevrolet S-10 pickup hit a 1998 Jeep head-on after crossing the center line. The Jeep was driven by a 64-year-old woman who was transporting her 90-year-old mother to an unknown location. The man driving the pickup was not wear a seat belt at the time of the crash and sustained serious injuries in the accident. He was transported to Memorial Medical Center for surgery. It is there that he died shortly after arriving.
According to the coroner, the 90-year-old Jeep passenger sustained multiple traumatic injuries and blunt force trauma to the head. She died at the scene of the wreck due to blunt force trauma. Her daughter was also injured and was taken to Memorial Medical Center where her internal injuries and broken bones were treated. It is reported that she will make a full recovery. Both women in the Jeep were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash.
The car accident caused PA Route 271 to be shut down for several hours while the scene was attended to and surveyed by an accident reconstructionist. It is currently unknown what caused the pick-up to cross the center line and the accident is currently under investigation.
